For more than seven years, Gilas Pilipinas has not defeated the South Korean national basketball team.
The Filipinos may end that losing streak in February next year as they will face the Koreans twice in the 2021 FIBA Asian Cup Qualifiers in Clark, Pampanga.
Gilas will face Korea on February 18-22, 2021, as the Philippine national team needs to win just one of its three games in the window to qualify for next year’s Asian Cup in August.
The Filipinos will face off against the Koreans twice as the latter did not participate in the November window of the qualifiers in Manama, Bahrain, for health and safety reasons amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Gilas and Corea were supposed to play a game in the Manama “bubble”, but that game is now rescheduled to the latest window plus the original scheduled game in February.
The Nationals are in a good position to beat the Koreans, as the latter would have to play four games in five days.
South Korea will also face Indonesia on February 19 and Thailand the following day.
Drawn into Group A with Korea, Indonesia and Thailand, the Philippines lead the standings with a score of 3-0, followed by Korea (2-0), Indonesia (1-2) and Thailand (1-4).
Gilas will also face Indonesia on February 20.
