Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 14) – Motorists are still free to pass the toll roads in the city of Valenzuela, as the North Luzon Expressway business permit remains suspended on Monday, even after holding a meeting with the local government to address system failures. RFID.

During the solutions meeting of NLEx representatives and Valenzuela city officials led by Mayor Rex Gatchalian, both parties agreed to maintain the suspension order until NLEx completes the system update on the implementation of its radio frequency identification system to on January 30, 2021, which had been the main cause of traffic on the toll roads.

The firm should also be able to provide responses to the city’s proposal to completely remove toll barriers, as Gatchalian noted they would not be necessary if the cashless system is fully operational.

The general manager of the Manila Metropolitan Development Authority, Jojo García, who was also present at the meeting, supported the idea, but also said that barriers can be raised during rush hours and lowered during curfew hours as a win-win solution.

“By January 30, you should finish updating your account management system to significantly reduce all complaints …[when it comes to] traffic, the ball is now in his court, “Gatchalian told NLEx president Luigi Bautista.

Both parties also agreed to restore cash lines, relocate the RFID facility, and increase the power of the RFID sensor from the current four watts to eight watts in two weeks. They will also sign a memorandum of understanding on consumer welfare issues.

The two-hour meeting ended on a good note, as the mayor added that he is willing to hold another dialogue to allow NLEx to respond to his proposal to “lift barriers.”

He said: “You have the time you want, I will be available to get more answers to our questions about the ‘lifting of barriers’, and that will be the answer as to when we will lift the suspension.”

“We appreciate that we were able to talk in this way,” Bautista said. “Open the discussion po iyong ating and open din tayo to talk more hanggang maresolve po natin ito sa madaling panahon (We have an open discussion and are open to keep talking until we solve this problem as soon as possible)”

The Valenzuela city government suspended NLEx’s business permit last Monday, citing complaints from motorists about faulty RFID sensors and other problems that worsened traffic conditions in the city.
