Cashless charges on toll roads have been gaining momentum, reaching 90 percent of transactions, transport authorities said.

In a statement Sunday, the Executive Director of the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), Abraham Sales, said that payment transactions made using radio frequency identification (RFID) stickers were between 80 and 90 percent. hundred.

Citing reports from toll concessionaires, more than 3.7 million RFID stickers have been installed compared to 1.4 million when the cashless program first began.

The number of motorists waiting for its RFID installation also dropped, the official noted, from more than 34,000 on Dec. 1 to less than 28,000 a week later.

In late August, the Department of Transportation (DoTr) issued Department Order 2020-012 requiring TRB, the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to design new processes to ensure the rapid adoption of the collection toll.

The DoTr said contactless transactions will be implemented at the following identified limited access facilities: South Luzon Expressway, Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway, North Luzon Expressway, South Metro Manila Skyway, Southern Tagalog Arterial Road Tollway, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and Cavite -Laguna Expressway; and all other road networks, including any extensions of the aforementioned existing motorway facilities, that may be built, established and / or operated as motorway toll facilities.
