MANILA, Philippines – The Human Rights Commission (CHR) has formally launched an online lawyer service that seeks to provide real-time legal advice amid government-imposed quarantine restrictions in response to the coronavirus disease pandemic. (COVID-19). .
The CHR launched the Human Rights Electronic Advocacy Service (HR-ELS) on Thursday, in time for the observance of International Human Rights Day.
The program will be implemented in partnership with the Legal Aid Office of the University of the Philippines School of Law.
CDH Commissioner Gwendolyn Pimentel-Gana said the program has the potential to make legal services more accessible to marginalized sections of society.
“With your volunteer spirit and passion, we, together, the students of the CDH and the UP-OLA can make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities, women sex workers, the elderly, indigenous peoples, LGBTQ people, women and children, and others. that they are marginalized and that they would not be able to cross our doors from now on, and that they would also be fearful and scared to do so, ”he said during the launch.
