MANILA – Barangay Geneva took home the Philippine Basketball Association championship on Wednesday night after claiming an 82-78 victory against TNT Tropang Giga in Game 5 of the final at the Foundation Cultural and Sports Center from the University of Angeles.

Barangay sizzled in the final five minutes of the game, going 12-0 to rally from a 68-73 deficit to an 80-73 lead with 56 seconds left before holding on after two free throws by LA Tenorio with 8.5 seconds to play.

Japeth Aguilar tied his career-high with 32 points on 8 of 12 shots from the field and 16 of 19 free throws along with nine rebounds, two assists and three steals for Geneva, who won his 13th championship overall.

With the bubble championship categorized as a Philippine Cup title, this is also the franchise’s first pennant in what is typically the first conference of the season since 2007.

Despite only scoring 13 points on 5 of 17 shots, Stanley Pringle delivered when it mattered most, scoring back-to-back 3s that put his team on top forever.

Tenorio sealed his Finals MVP period with 10 markers, two boards, six dimes and a steal.

RR Pogoy led TNT again with 23 points, but was limited to 6 of 21 shots, including 1 of 7 from 3-point range.

Poy Erram added 18 points, 15 rebounds, one assist, three blocks and two steals. (PNA)
