ILOILO CITY – Six tourists from Metro Manila were taken from their hotel on the island of Boracay and quarantined after five of them were found to have submitted false coronavirus test results.
Malay Police Chief Lt. Col. Jonathan Pablito said the police would file criminal complaints against tourists for falsifying public documents and violating Republic Law No. 1332, which required notification of contagious diseases.
Attorney Selwyn Ibarreta, manager of the Caticlan port in Malay, the city of Aklan which has jurisdiction over Boracay, said that only one of the six tourists had submitted genuine results of reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT -PCR) for SARS Cov2, the virus. that causes COVID-19.
“Apparently, the group of four women and two men presented five falsified RT-PCR test results using the genuine one,” Ibarreta told INQUIRER on Monday (December 8).
He said that the laboratory that issued the document with the genuine test result confirmed that the other five tourists were not his clients and that the five falsified results were copied from the genuine result.
The tourists arrived on December 5 and were supposed to leave the island on Monday. They were taken to the provincial quarantine facility in the capital city of Kalibo, where they were examined and quarantined for 14 days.
Tourists bound for the island of Boracay must have negative published RT-PCR test results within 72 hours prior to their trip. This is a requirement before they are issued a quick reaction code (QR) to enter the island.
