MANILA, Philippines – Seven of the hottest names in the country’s entertainment industry were featured on this year’s Forbes 100 list of Asia-Pacific’s most influential celebrities on social media.
Forbes Asia released its 100 Digital Stars list on Tuesday that features singers, bands, film and television stars who are highly influential on social media. Forbes Asia also noted that the list included celebrities who “have also used their influence to support worthy
causes, especially those with a Covid-19 focus. “
Notable stars mentioned on the list include Angel Locsin, Marian Rivera-Dantes, Kim Chiu, Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Kathryn Bernardo, and Sarah Geronimo.
One of the more familiar faces on the list was Locsin, who also made Forbes Asia’s “Heroes of Philanthropy” list last year. In a statement, Forbes cited Locsin’s COVID-19 initiative that raised a total of P11.3 million and helped 135 hospitals.
Meanwhile, 36-year-old actress and mother Marian Rivera-Dantes was recognized by Forbes for her large following on social media. She was described as the most popular celebrity in the Philippines on Facebook, with a total of 23 million followers.
Actress Kim Chiu took a spot on the chart after turning her viral mistake “Bawal Lumabas” into a new single. The Classroom Song became an instant hit and has over nine million views on YouTube. Chiu also took the opportunity to raise funds for pandemic relief.
Sarah Geronimo, like Locsin and Chiu, also raised approximately $ 5 million during a COVID-19 benefit concert.
Dubbed by Forbes as “The Most Popular Instagram Celebrity in the Philippines,” Anne Curtis was joined by her fellow celebrities on the list. Curtis currently has nearly 16 million online followers and endorsement deals with popular brands like Jollibee, Louis Vuitton, and Pantene.
Actress Kathryn Bernardo and comedian and TV show host Vice Ganda were also featured for their notable achievements in the industry.
“Forbes Asia’s inaugural 100 Digital Stars list couldn’t have come at a more relevant time. Artists rely on social media platforms to connect and communicate with fans, especially in the absence of live entertainment due to Covid-19 restrictions in the region, ”Forbes Asia editor Rana Wehbe Watson said in a release.
“The top 100 celebrities on the list are between the ages of 20 and 78, showing that social media influence is an intergenerational phenomenon,” Watson added.
