The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has regained first place on the European plug-in hybrid sales charts with records across Europe from January to late October 2020 surpassing 22,262 (Source: Jato), more than 1,000 units ahead of its rival more near.

With increasing competition and increasing demand for PHEVS across Europe, the Mitsubishi Outlander’s reputation for reliability and efficiency still dominates in the segment it has effectively established since it launched the first generation Outlander PHEV in 2014.

In the UK, PHEV sales have now surpassed 58,000 so far in 2020, with the Outlander topping the PHEV SUV charts and still on the podium among all plug-in hybrid competitors, with 3,294 sales.

The popularity of PHEVs is growing and the UK government accepts that they will continue to play a role in decarbonizing transport beyond the 2030 ICE sell-off deadline.

Recent studies carried out on behalf of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK have indicated that 92% charge their PHEVs several times a week and spend almost three-quarters (72%) of their trips and 85% of their errands and trips school children driving in EV mode. Just as important, PHEVs are also accelerating a change in attitude for the future with 70% of PHEV owners now considering an all-electric vehicle for their next purchase compared to just 27% of ICE drivers.
