MANILA, Philippines – Toll operators have agreed to test the interoperability of their cashless toll payment systems, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Monday.
In a statement, the DOTr said that SMC TPLEX Corp. (SMCTC), Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) and NLEX Corp. (NLEX) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to test the AutoSweep and EasyTrip radio. Frequency Identification (RFID) cashless toll payments along motorways.
SMCTC, operator and concessionaire of Tarlac Pangasinan Union Expressway, uses the AutoSweep RFID tag, while MPTC, which operates the North Luzon Expressway and Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway, uses the EasyTrip RFID tag.
The interoperability test is part of DOTr’s campaign for “fast, efficient and smooth travel of motorists along various toll roads, as the country continues to recover from the impact of the 2019 coronavirus disease pandemic ( COVID-19) “.
“We are grateful to our private partners who have shown their unparalleled support on this project. We need your help to accelerate the steps necessary to fully implement toll interoperability, ”DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade was quoted as saying in the statement.
Under the MOA, a committee will be created to implement and monitor compliance with the agreement by toll regulators.
An AutoSweep RFID will be activated using an EasyTrip account, while an RFID EasyTrip tag will be activated using an AutoSweep account. The test will include 45 vehicles made up of different classes of vehicles.
