On Saturday, the Department of Justice ordered the National Investigation Office (NBI) to carry out an investigation and a lifting of the case of the mayor of Los Baños, César Pérez, who was shot inside the municipal hall Thursday night.
In a memorandum issued by Judge Usec. Ferdinand Sugay, the director of NBI OIC was ordered to work on the case.
“The NBI, through the officer in charge Eric B. Distor, receives the order and authority to carry out an investigation and preparation of the case related to the death of Mayor César Pérez de Los Baños, Laguna and, if the evidence is so justifies, to bring the corresponding charges against the responsible persons, “Sugay said in his memo.
Unidentified gunmen shot the mayor of Los Baños in the back of the city hall building around 8:40 p.m., according to police.
Authorities are investigating 2 possible suspects behind the murder based on CCTV footage from nearby stores.
Police said they saw 2 men wearing masks loitering at the scene before the shooting occurred.
