The mayor of Los Baños, Laguna was shot inside the town hall on Thursday night.
Los Baños police reported that Mayor César Pérez was shot dead at 8:45 pm
Perez, 66, had just received a massage at a nearby spa and was heading to the hall’s reception area when gunmen shot him twice in the head, police said.
The police report did not say how many suspects killed the mayor.
Pérez was transferred to the HealthServ Los Baños Medical Center, where he died at around 9:25 p.m.
The Secretary of the Interior, Eduardo Año, ordered that a task force be formed to investigate the incident.
Calabarzon Police Chief General Felipe Natividad said investigators were reviewing images from security cameras installed “around the Los Baños municipal complex and surrounding establishments.”
Pérez, who was also deputy governor of Laguna, was on President Rodrigo Duterte’s list of government officials involved in illegal drugs.
In December 2017, Pérez was stripped of his authority over the city police due to his alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
