BIFF members invade the PNP station and burn a patrol in the city of Maguindanao

MANILA, Philippines – Elements of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) invaded the Maguindanao City Police Station in Datu Piang on Thursday night, according to initial reports from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

According to AFP’s Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom), an unknown number of BIFF members entered the city around 11:00 pm and invaded the Philippine National Police (PNP) station in the city, prior to burn a patrol.

When military troops arrived to clear the area, members of the BIFF had fled.

WestMinCom assured that troops were aware of the situation and had begun to investigate the incident.

“According to the initial report from JTF Central, around 11 pm, an unknown number of BIFFs entered the city of Datu Piang, Maguindanao, invaded the PNP station and burned the PNP patrol,” said Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr., WestMonCom said the commander.

“Our troops responded immediately to clear the area. Consequently, the BIFF left the area after burning the PNP patrol. Currently, our troops are in the area and control the situation, ”added Vinluan.

No casualties were recorded on the side of the PNP, except for the patrol car.

Videos of the shooting incident spread quickly on social media showing residents hiding in their homes as gunshots rang out near the area. The clips also showed the patrol on fire in the area.
