CHIEF judge Diosdado Peralta decided to leave his post one year before his retirement scheduled for March 2022.
This was confirmed by Supreme Court spokesman Brian Keith Hosaka after speaking personally with the Chief Justice to confirm reports about his decision to retire early.
Hosaka said that Peralta had written to his colleagues at SC “indicating his intention to take early retirement.”
“I have asked him personally and he has confirmed it. The Chief Justice did not give any further details, but said that he will make a formal announcement in due course, ”Hosaka said in a Viber message to justice journalists.
A court source said Peralta did not disclose his reason for choosing to vacate his post at the beginning of his letter to his fellow magistrates.
Peralta, who was appointed on October 23, will retire on March 27, 2022.
During his tenure, Peralta promised to further strengthen the judiciary by implementing his 10-point program, which includes creating a security system for the judiciary to address killings and other forms of violence committed against members of power. judicial.

Earlier this year, Peralta was forced to order the physical closure of all courts across the country following the Covid-19 outbreak.
This led the court to adopt video conferencing to virtually hear and resolve criminal and civil cases.
