MANILA, Philippines – A total of 333,697 Filipino Overseas Workers (OFW) have been repatriated so far amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Secretary of the National Task Force (NTF) said Monday night against the COVID-19, Delfin Lorenzana.
Lorenzana made the report to President Rodrigo Duterte during a meeting in Malacañang.
Filipino migrant workers have returned to the Philippines since mid-March after coronavirus infections worldwide rose rapidly, forcing governments to impose strict movement restrictions that severely affected business operations.
Lorenzana also said that the NTF is closely monitoring the areas with a reported increase in infections such as the city of Iloilo, Tacloban, Lanao del Sur, Iligan, the city of Davao and the province of Davao.
On Monday, the Philippines recorded an additional 1,773 cases of COVID-19, bringing the national count to 431,630. Although the majority of cases or 398,658 are recoveries, 8,392 people have died from the respiratory disease so far.
