MANILA, Philippines – While there is a need to impose physical distancing at events, the head of pandemic response implementation Carlito Gálvez Jr. admitted Monday that there are times when crowding becomes too difficult. to be controlled by the authorities.
Gálvez issued the statement after the events attended by presidential spokesman Harry Roque and Senator Manny Pacquiao were criticized for allegedly violating health protocols.
“[Interior] Secretary [Eduardo] Year is very specific that for [the] crowd that we will have and also some activities, we are only allowed to have 10 to 20 participants in an open space, “said Gálvez in an interview on the ABS-CBN news channel.
“But I think that in some cases in evacuation areas and in some programs, we really can’t dictate the situation because sometimes people tend to crowd and really crowd into one space,” he added.
Gálvez pointed out that at times like this they advise people and even local government units to impose physical distancing.
“As I have told you, I have been going around and sometimes I saw that in other areas, they are not following the minimum health standards. For this reason, when we speak with local government units, we give them some kind of advice that we have to follow, that people have to observe minimum health standards, ”said Gálvez.
Roque addressed a large crowd on Bantayan Island, Cebu, for the opening of his airport last week, as Pacquiao distributed aid to victims of the typhoon in Batangas.
Year said that the events that both officials will attend will be investigated for alleged violation of physical distancing measures.
