The ORIGINAL singer of Pilipino Music (OPM) behind the hits “Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin” and “Paano Ang Puso Ko”, April Boy Regino died at the age of 51 on November 11. 29.
The news of his death was confirmed through a Facebook post from his brother Vingo Regino. “This day is so sad, my brother April Boy is gone,” Regino said in Filipino in his post. Regino’s son, JC, uploaded a photo of a candle with a caption that read “Idol.”
He rose to fame in the 1990s with songs like “Ye Ye Vonnel”, “Umiiyak Ang Puso Ko”, in addition to the aforementioned songs. He was known for his long hair and for wearing caps during performances.
In February 2009, Mr. Regino was diagnosed with prostate cancer and diabetes and in 2015 he was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy. He lost sight in his left eye due to the condition.
Born Dennis Regino Magdaraog on April 9, 1969, Mr. Regino is the oldest of three brothers, all of them musicians. He is survived by his wife Madel, son JC, and brothers Vingo and Jimmy.
