Cayetano, who chaired the Phlippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHILGOC), congratulated the POC for giving Tolentino a new mandate that would “usher in a new era of sports focused on the well-being of Filipino athletes.”

“His re-election means the vote of confidence of the leaders of the national sports associations for a more progressive and responsive leader,” Cayetano said after Tolentino, former president of the Chamber’s Accounts Committee, was elected for another term as president of the POC on November 27. .

Cayetano praised Tolentino for his effective and inspiring leadership style that contributed to the resounding success of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

He said Tolentino played a crucial role in the country’s effort to regain the Philippine overall championship at the biennial sporting event.

“We hope that the leadership of the POC continues to inspire and provide our athletes with the support they need during competitions,” he said.

Cayetano said that after Friday’s elections, the POC leadership should strive to work towards the collective goal of improving the overall sports performance of the Philippines in future competitions.

He expressed optimism that under Tolentino’s leadership, the Philippines will maintain the “legacy of winning” that it had recovered from previous SEA Games.

“I am confident that the power of collaboration and our strength as a Filipino people, which lies in fighting as one and winning as one and that we rediscovered during the SEA Games, will maintain its momentum,” said Cayetano.

“I also look forward to seeing the POC step up its programs and remain focused and committed to our shared vision, which is to make sport a brilliant inspiration for youth and a driving force for unity in our nation,” he added.
