The Gin Kings and Tropang Giga begin their best-of-seven title match at 6pm on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at the University of Angeles Foundation Sports and Cultural Center powered by Smart 5G technology. Geneva head coach Tim Cone said the Gin Kings face an uphill climb against Tropang Giga. “They (TNT) were the favorite team to enter the PBA bubble. I think they showed it from the beginning. I think we (the Gin Kings) will be the least favorites going into the playoffs, even though we were the top spots (after the knockout round), ”Cone said. The Gin Kings edged the Meralco Bolts, 83-80, last Wednesday to advance. Tropang Giga attacked Phoenix, 91-81, to also earn their spot in the Finals. Cone said the man to watch on the series will be TNT’s Jayson Castro. “They are playing great basketball. They are well trained and have Jayson (Castro). Jayson makes a difference. We had a really hard time containing Chris Newsome (in the semi-finals). As good as Chris was, Jayson takes it to another level. We have to find a way to control it, ”Cone said. The Gin Kings will look to repeat their 85-79 victory over TNT on November 6. Geneva’s Stanley Pringle finished with a double-double of 28 points and 12 rebounds to propel the Gin Kings past TNT. In addition to Pringle, the Gin Kings will also rely on Scottie Thompson, whose clutch 3-pointer in the closing seconds of their Game 5 showdown propelled the Gin Kings out of the Bolts. Giving them a lot of support will be veterans LA Tenorio, Japeth Aguilar, Jared Dillinger and Joe Devance. Aside from Castro, a bigger problem for the Gin Kings will be trying to contain TNT’s Ray Parks. Parks is the league’s statistical leader this season with 38.3 statistical points. He averaged 22.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game. As good as he was during the elimination round, Parks improved those numbers across the board in the five-game semi-final series where TNT beat the Super LPG. Parks averaged 27.8 points (which included a maximum of 41 points), 8.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game against Phoenix in the PBA semifinals.
