Home appliance maker Dyson is ready to build a software lab in Alabang, Muntinlupa city and look for workers to fill the 400 local software engineering jobs available there in the next three years.

The facility is part of the global technology company’s £ 2.75 billion investment plan and would build on its existing manufacturing facility in the city of Calamba, Laguna province.

This four-year-old plant currently employs 600 people and manufactures 13 million Dyson digital engines annually.

In a virtual briefing on Thursday, the firm said the lab would be part of its global research, design and development team, along with those from the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Singapore and Malaysia.

The lab, he added, would also reflect Dyson’s goals to double its product portfolio and venture into new fields by 2025 as it accelerates its research and development (R&D) efforts in robotics, software, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Positions available in the lab include embedded software engineers, automation test engineers, scrum masters, product owners, program administrators, release train engineers, and team leaders.

“The Philippines is home to bright young engineers who share Dyson’s ambition to develop technologies for the future. Dyson has been growing in the Philippines for this reason and it is a nation that clearly celebrates both engineers and technology, ”Dyson COO Scott Maguire said in a statement.

“We already have a brilliant team of engineers here and have built over 20 million Dyson Hyperdymium engines from our advanced manufacturing facility in Calamba,” he added.

“We will continue to invest in the Philippines and look forward to having highly skilled Filipino engineers join our ranks to develop and manufacture new and exciting technologies for the future, to be used around the world.”

Commerce Secretary Ramón López welcomed Dyson’s imminent expansion and said his department was “proud to support it.”

“This is a testament to our business-friendly environment and speaks to the Philippines being an attractive destination for investment. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Dyson for years to come, ”he said.
