Gilas Pilipinas topped Thailand, 93-61, in the Fiba Asia Cup Qualifiers at Khalifa Sports City in Manama, Bahrain, on Friday night (Manila time).
The young Filipino team made up of an outstanding referee had no problems against a fully professional Thai team, quickly breaking the game in the second quarter and leading by as much as 36 points.
Dwight Ramos led for the Filipinos with 20 points on perfect shots from the field along with seven rebounds and three assists. Juan Gómez de Liano and Justine Baltazar added 12 markers each.
Thailand, who played without their star Tyler Lamb, was outscored in all respects by the Philippines except for second-chance points (13-9).
The two squads play again on Monday.
