Can Scottie Trey rival the winner of the Brownlee vs Meralco game?

SCOTTIE Thompson’s game winner on Friday added to the anguish that Barangay Geneva has been inflicting on Meralco in recent years.

Thompson was the hero of the decisive Game Five of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals inside Clark’s bubble after he hit a 3-pointer from the deep left corner to lead Geneva to beat Meralco, 83-80.

For Geneva fans, Thompson’s shot will be one of the most memorable against Meralco, right up there with Justin Brownlee’s treble to win the 2016 PBA Governor’s Cup finals.

That 2016 crown was the first of three Geneva championships to come off Meralco’s expense in the Governor’s Cup.

“Poor Meralco, they fought us very hard and we seemed to find a way to make great shots. Of course, Justin fired, ”Cone said. “I’m really sorry for [Meralco coach] Norman [Black] because he directed an incredible series. “

Cone praised Black for the adjustments that he said caught Guinevere off guard on the series. But Cone said there is also a part of him that is sad that Meralco cannot get over the hump against Geneva.

“We are not really the best of friends, but we are close. It really hurts to know the pain that has to go through for us to be happy, ”Cone said.

Cone said the winning play also highlighted the disinterest of this Geneva team.

“I just don’t want to take anything from Scottie. Scottie fired a tremendous shot. Prince did a very selfless work. The play was designed for Stanley. [Pringle] and Stanley gave it to Prince and Prince gave it to Scottie and Scottie got it right. I’d like to think that’s what it’s about. That’s generosity, ”Cone said.

Cone, however, said there is still nothing bigger than Brownlee’s 3-point shot.

“Of course, the first championship with Justin’s shot, that’s the crème de la crème. The big shot. I guess they call it THE shot, but this one is very close, ”Cone said.

“Once again, I am happy that Scottie was the one who made the shot. It is well deserved for Scottie, ”he added.
