MANILA, Philippines – Another suspect in the murder of Palawan lawyer Eric Jay Magcamit surrendered to police in Palawan on Friday following the recent arrest of a police officer and eight other suspects behind the murder.
Mariano Quioyo, who is believed to have been the mastermind behind Magcamit’s murder, turned himself in to the Palawan Police Special Investigation Task Force (SITG) at 3pm on Friday because he wanted to be “protected by the police,” a Updated report from Palawan Provincial Police Office. set.

Quioyo was already indicted by the police for Magcamit’s murder before he decided to turn himself in. He is now in the custody of the Palawan Police Criminal Detection and Investigation Group (CIDG).
He was among the nine people, including Police Sergeant Major Ariel Pareja, who had been charged with the murder. Pareja had been previously arrested, who subsequently named his alleged cohorts, namely Quioyo, one Jazer del Rosario and six other John Does.
The police investigation showed that Quioyo was involved in a court case over a land dispute where Magcamit acted as legal adviser to the other party.
On November 17, Magcamit was killed instantly after two unidentified assailants shot him in the Palawan town of Narra.
A CCTV video from his vehicle’s dash cam had led investigators to the identities of some of the suspects.
