CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – President Rodrigo Duterte appointed former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as Presidential Advisor on Clark Programs and Projects for a salary of P1 per year.
The former president, whose family hails from Pampanga, served as representative of the province’s second district after her 10-year term as president.
She will advise the Executive Director on the development of the 3,400 hectare Clark Economic Zone and Free Port, which is home to Clark International Airport and Clark New Town, declared by Duterte as the administrative center of the national government.
The free port is home to more than 1,000 export companies with 140,000 workers before the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Tuesday, Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) said it had begun an assessment of its assets at the civil aviation complex to generate more government revenue.
“One of our proactive responses to the pandemic is to conduct a complete inventory of fixed and movable assets, including non-performing assets, which will become additional revenue for the government,” said CIAC President Aaron Aquino. —WITH REPORT BY JEANNETTE I. ANDRADE
