MANILA, Philippines – The Office of Civil Defense issued an apology on Thursday (November 26) for what it said was a confusion in the figures on agricultural damage from Typhoon Ulysses.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that agricultural losses were already worth P540 billion in its bulletin Thursday morning. He modified it to P4.7 billion later in the day.

“We apologize to po for the confusion,” said Mark Timbal, OCD spokesman.

He said the figures received by the OCD operations center had been wrongly marked as billions “when it was only millions.”

“This has been certified in the most recent status report,” Timbal said, referring to the status report.

Earlier in the day, NDRRMC CEO Ricardo Jalad said damage to infrastructure from Typhoon Ulysses has soared to P10.79 billion.

More than 4 million people, or nearly one million families, in many parts of Luzon had been displaced or suffered losses during the typhoon.

The government had released at least P200 million in aid.

President Rodrigo Duterte declared a state of calamity across Luzon following a series of typhoons, including Ulysses, that struck the Philippines.
