MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines International Trade Corporation (PITC) has pledged to begin delivering items to the Philippine National Police (PNP) worth 1.06 billion pesos in December, the head of the PNP, General Debold Sinas.

According to Sinas, the PNP has already informed the Senate that the PITC has committed to completing the bidding process for weapons, police mobiles, vests and other items.

He said that the original amount of funds transferred by the PNP to the PITC for the acquisition is more than P1.3 billion, but that supplies worth P300 million are now being delivered to interested police units.

“The remaining P1.06 billion, nagcommit ang PITC na tatapusin nila ‘yung making an offer ngayon (The PITC promised to end the bidding) and will begin to comply in the second week of December,” he said at a press conference.

It was the Audit Commission (COA) that first flagged items worth more than $ 1 billion in September that the PITC has not yet released to the PNP since 2016.

The issue was also raised during the Senate deliberations for the 2021 PNP budget bill in October.

Sinas explained that the senators have already been informed that the PNP has demanded that the PITC hand over the articles.

“We present to the Senate that we are already demanding that those items be turned over or ibalik ang pera (or the money must be returned),” he said.

“The company promised to distribute and begin delivering the items in the second week or the first week of December,” he added.
