MANILA – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is preparing to release financial aid to members of the national team severely hit by consecutive typhoons.
The sports agency received reports that 57 athletes and coaches from nine sports were evacuated due to massive flooding caused by Typhoon Ulysses in Metro Manila and nearby areas.
Coordinated with the National Sports Associations (NSA) to find out who has been negatively affected.
PSC President William Ramirez said the agency is monitoring members of the Philippine national team devastated by the typhoon and is accelerating the release of financial assistance.
“It may not be substantial, but we will do everything we can to help them,” Ramírez said in a press release Sunday.
Attorney for PSC Executive Director Guillermo Iroy Jr. said that once the NSA has submitted the final report, assistance will be sent to affected athletes.
“We will implement it as soon as possible. We are just waiting for the final report on the NSA affairs so we can finalize everything, ”said Iroy.
Most of the affected national athletes and coaches are from the Philippine Dragonboat Canoe-Kayak Federation that resides near the floodways in Rizal. (PR)
