MANILA, Philippines – The country’s task force that leads law enforcement efforts during the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has a new commander.
Lieutenant General Cesar Hawthorne Binag, deputy director of operations of the Philippine National Police (PNP), will now take over as commander of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield, its former chief and deputy PNP director for the administration Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar announced on Sunday .
“As of November 17, I was appointed Comdr (commander) of the PNP’s Covid Opns Administrative Support Working Group (ASCOTF),” Eleazar said in a Viber message to journalists, while thanking concerned government agencies. for cooperating with the JTF to enforce the Quarantine Protocols.
“Please extend the same support for my mistake (batch mate), TDCO PLtGen Cesar Hawthorne Binag, as the new Comdr, JTF COVID Shield,” he added.
Eleazar and Binag rank as the second and third highest police officers, respectively, under the hierarchy of leadership in the PNP.
