Romantic Bollywood Movies on Netflix

Musical numbers on top of moving trains? Exaggerated dialogue? Super dramatic–but happy endings? These are just some of the things that make Bollywood movies so special! India has the THE LARGEST film industry in the world, and the country produces “between 1,500 and 2,000 films a year in 20 languages.” Bollywood is the Hindi sector of the Indian film industry.

Thanks to Netflix, we have been able to watch many Bollywood movies * legally *. If you are very new to the genre, we prepared a list of romantic comedy movies that are available on the streaming platform, and many of them star Shahrukh khan, the king of Bollywood! While there are some ~ troublesome ~ characters, especially in older movies, these stories are definitely worth your time and tears.

1. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Something is wrong)

It stars: Shahrukh Khan, KajolY Rani Mukerji

Imagine this: a girl who was raised by a single father sets out to fulfill her mother’s dying wish: reunite him with her best friend from college, Anjali! However, our little matchmaker has a * small * problem: Anjali is already engaged to someone else.

2. Jaane Tu … Ya Jaane Na (Know it or not)

It stars: Imran khan Y Genelia D’Souza

This movie deserves a spot on our list because of its adorable story: Two best friends from college are convinced they don’t have any ~ romantic feelings ~ for each other … but their family and friends know best. Takes them years to realize what they mean to each other! Reminds me of 1998 Pinoy film Kita Laboratories … Okey Ka Lang?

3. 2 states

It stars: Alia bhatt Y Arjun kapoor

“Two graduate students hope to win their parents’ approval before marrying, but the two families clash over their cultural differences.” It is based on a 2009 novel called 2 states: my marriage story.

Four. Dilwale (The One with the Big Heart)

It stars: Sha Rukh Khan and Kajol

In their long-awaited reunion film, the love team stars as Raj and Meera, two people who fall in love but are torn apart by their families. They meet again many years later and are given a second chance. This movie received mixed reviews for being “cliche” Definitely worth seeing for fans of the love team!

5. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham … (Sometimes there is joy, sometimes there is pain …)

It stars: Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh bachchan, Jaya bachchan, Hrithik roshanY Kareena kapoor

Try this movie if you are looking for intense romance + family drama! The wealthy Raichand family (they are actually some kind of billionaires) falls apart when the eldest son insists on being with the love of his life, a woman who comes from a poor family.

6. Jab We Met (When We Met)

It stars: Shahid kapoor and Karina Kapoor

A * charlatan * named Geet meets a depressed businessman named Aditya on “a night train to Delhi.” After they get stranded together, he walks her home and even helps her elope with her boyfriend. Fun fact: at the time of filming, the main stars were really dating!

7. Festival (show)

It stars: Ranbir Kapoor Y Deepika padukone

Watch this movie if you are looking for a not so typical love story. Two strangers meet while on vacation in Corsica. They are obviously attracted to each other, but decide to keep their real identities a secret.

8. Om Shanti Om (Om, Shanti and Om)

It stars: Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone

Do you believe in reincarnation? An aspiring actor who died 30 years ago is given a new life and is determined to punish the person who caused his death. This film was the Bollywood debut of actress Deepika Padukone and was only 20 years when the movie was created!

9. Kal Ho Naa Ho (Tomorrow will never come)

It stars: Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali KhanY Preity Zinta

Set in London, this film tells the story of an MBA student who falls in love with his new neighbor. But a happy ending seems impossible because he has a secret that forces him to ~ push her away ~.

10. Barfi!

It stars: Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka chopraY Ileana D’Cruz

This movie is set in the 1970s in Darjeeling, India, and tells the story of Murphy, also known as Barfi. The trailer tells us: “After falling in love with the beautiful Shruti, Barfi’s sweet demeanor faces its greatest challenge when Shruti’s socially conscious parents force her to marry a more conventional suitor. Her decision sets off a chain of events that turn her into, and Barfi, life upside down. ”

COUSIN: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (This young man is crazy)

It stars: Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone

This movie about growing up and falling in love tells the story of a shy medical student and a carefree dreamer who wants to travel the world. They have totally different plans for the future, but there is no denying that there is chemistry there! Disclaimer: Until a few months ago this movie was on Netflix Philippines. Bring on this movie, Netflix!
