MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) revealed on Saturday that it is investigating the murder of former Jolo, Sulu police chief, Police Lt. Col. Walter Annayo, who is facing cases for the murder of four Army intelligence officers on June 29 last.
“The case is now under investigation by PRO BARMM [Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao]. The CPNP [PNP Chief General Debold Sinas] he himself has commissioned the director of the regional police to investigate the case (gunning down Lieutenant Colonel Walter Annayo), ”said Brigadier General Ildebrandi Usana, a PNP spokesman, in a statement.
Usana said that police investigators are still identifying the motive for Annayo’s death.
“For now, the PNP cannot clarify, much less make known any results on the motive behind it, not even the connection with his previous assignment as chief of police at the Jolo police station, where the case of the alleged shooting between police and military. latest [June] it happened, ”he said.
Annayo was about to buy coconut juice when an unknown assailant shot him dead in Maguindanao this Saturday afternoon.
Annayo, five other Jolo police officers and three members of the Sulu Provincial Drug Control Unit (PDEU) face murder complaints to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for the killing of Army intelligence agents in Jolo.
Months after the incident, the PNP’s Internal Affairs Service also filed administrative cases and criminal complaints against the police officers involved.
Annayo was administratively relieved after nine of his men were involved in the fatal shooting of four soldiers on June 29.
