MANILA, Philippines – Senator Joel Villanueva on Saturday called on the government to improve wages and benefits for the country’s healthcare workers following the lifting of the controversial ban on the deployment of medical employees.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III previously revealed that President Rodrigo Duterte allowed only 5,000 healthcare workers a year to leave the country as the spread of coronavirus infections improved.

“While we welcome the lifting of the ban on the deployment of healthcare workers, we see this as a reminder for our government to continue to raise compensation standards for them,” said Villanueva, chairman of the Senate Labor and Employment Committee, it’s a statement. .
