Gilas will face Thailand twice as Fiba makes the final review of his schedule

GILAS Pilipinas will now only have to prepare for Thailand for the November window of the Fiba Asia Cup 2021 in Bahrain.

On the tight schedule posted by Fiba on its competition website, the Philippines are scheduled to face Thailand as their only opponent for the two-game series in Manama.

The first game is scheduled for November 27 and the second game on November 30. Both games will be played at Khalifa Sport City at 9pm (Manila time).

Friday’s Philippines-Thailand match is the rescheduled match since the first window of the playoffs last February.

Fiba made significant changes to the schedule, as several countries, including South Korea in Group A, pleaded.

However, the international basketball governing body has yet to make an official announcement on whether the games will be lost or rescheduled for the third window in February 2021.

The Philippines were initially set to face Thailand on November 26 and 30, as well as Korea on November 28.

There were reports that the Philippines was scheduled to play four games in four days, including against Indonesia.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) argued that the changes made in such a short time are “unfair” for the Philippines, as it has only been preparing for Thailand and Korea.

Gilas has a 1-0 win-loss record in Group A as the cadet team heads to Bahrain on Sunday.

Thailand, meanwhile, has yet to release a list, although local reports say the team will consist of professional players, although the best Tyler Lamb and coach Chris Daleo are missing.
