The Rockets continue to weigh their trade options with James Harden, whose potential new destiny remains one of the biggest mysteries of the NBA offseason.
According to Illustrated SportsChris Mannix, teams have begun investigating the Rockets about Harden, but Houston “has been reluctant to fully participate.”
The Rockets are reportedly planning to face Russell Westbrook, but interest in the guard has been tepid thus far. Houston is looking to ditch Westbrook’s contract, which has three years and $ 132 million left in the deal. Mannix reports that the Knicks haven’t asked about Westbrook, and Charlotte, a potential landing spot, just selected LaMelo Ball.
“It is unlikely that Houston will offer Harden without having a landing site for Westbrook, which could prove extremely difficult,” Mannix reports.
Earlier this week, the Nets and 76ers were rumored to be interested in Harden. The Sixers’ interest in the All-Star shooting guard has reportedly “increased in recent weeks,” and rapper Meek Mill and billionaire Michael Rubin are among those trying to offer Harden a new home in Philadelphia.
Without a doubt, the NBA offseason will be packed with a lot of activity on Friday now that the NBA draft is over. Teams can begin trading with free agents at 6 p.m. ET on Friday night. As rumors mount, take a look at Mannix’s free agency preview to answer the league’s biggest questions.
Here are the latest news and rumors from the NBA:
- The Knicks cleared more than $ 30 million in cap space this week, and there is interest in Gordon Hayward, with head coach Tom Thibodeau among Hayward’s strongest inside defenders. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
- The Kings are eager to work with a team on a trade for Bogdan Bogdanovic. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
- There will be a solid market for Bogdan Bogdanovic, which will include Atlanta, one of the few teams with significant cap space. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
- Fred VanVleet is seeking a $ 20 million per year neighborhood deal. Detroit’s interest in VanVleet is mild. The Knicks could take a long look, as VanVleet occupies a much-needed position and is a proven winner. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
- The Raptors are committed to bringing VanVleet back, with Toronto hoping to keep their core together until next summer, when (again) they hope to be players for an expensive free agent. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
- The Clippers remain determined to add another guard. Rajon Rondo is on Los Angeles’ radar, although Rondo could make a higher salary than the Clippers can afford. LA has also explored a deal for Terry Rozier from Charlotte. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
- There is no market for Dwight Howard beyond the Lakers right now, at least not above the veteran minimum. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
- The Wizards are expected to act aggressively to re-sign Davis Bertans. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
- Dallas is among the teams interested in Danilo Gallinari. The Hawks could also throw themselves against the versatile 32-year-old forward. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
- The Lakers would love to sign Tristan Thompson, LeBron James’ former Cleveland teammate who would shore up the front row. The Raptors, who could lose both Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka, are expected to go after the Toronto-born big man. (Chris Mannix, Sports Illustrated)
