MANILA, Philippines – Rudy del Rosario, former captain of the Philippine men’s soccer team, passed away on Friday. He was 51 years old.
A member of those who finished fourth at the XVI Southeast Asian Games, Del Rosario wore the bracelet from 1994 to 1997.
Del Rosario also moved on to futsal, where he represented the Philippines at the AFF Futsal Championship in 2001.
PFF President Mariano “Nonong” Araneta, Jr. expressed his condolences to Del Rosario’s family and described his former teammate as one of the country’s soccer legends.
“Philippine soccer lost one of its legends in Rudy Del Rosario, who not only impacted with his play on the field, but with his tremendous passion for the game that was reflected in his work even after his playing career,” he said. Araneta.
“Rudy was a skilled and creative player who always brought a positive energy to the teams he played for. He played with tenacity and determination, using football and music to express himself. He loved the game so much that he knew he would always be involved in the sport after his playing career. “

Del Rosario was one of the founding members of the Kaya Futbol Club in 1996 and helped young soccer talents in various communities, such as the Homeless World Cup team.
“Rudy used soccer as a platform to help improve the lives of many young players with his different coaching roles, especially with the homeless World Cup team. He was also one of the founders of Kaya Futbol Club, which is now considered one of the best clubs in the country, ”said Araneta.
“The wonderful tributes are proof of Rudy’s incredible impact on the Philippine soccer community. He will be missed. “
