According to a Social Weather Station (SWS) survey conducted September 17-20, about 66% of adult Filipinos surveyed are willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine if it is available now, while the other 31% are unwilling. to receive the vaccine. .

“We see this as a positive development, as it means that more Filipinos trust the current government’s vaccination program,” said presidential spokesman Harry Roque in a statement.

“However, we expect there to be a significant increase in the number of Filipinos willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, as President Rodrigo Roa Duterte wants all Filipinos to get vaccinated, prioritizing the poor, the indigent and other sectors. vulnerable, ”he added.

The Palace official announced Thursday that Duterte agreed to make upfront market commitments and upfront payments to private COVID-19 developers to guarantee supply for the Philippines.

In the Philippines, Sinovac Biotech of China is currently seeking approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct Phase 3 of its trials in the country.

Sinovac is the first drug manufacturer to pass the initial evaluation by the Philippine panel of vaccine experts. The panel is also evaluating COVID-19 vaccines from Russia’s Gamaleya Research Institute and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen subsidiary for late-stage trials.

Meanwhile, talks with US pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna are also ongoing, according to health authorities.
