Klay Thompson suffers season-ending Achilles tendon injury

Five-time All-Star point guard for the Golden State Warriors, Klay Thompson, tore his Achilles tendon, ESPN reported Adrian Wojnarowski.

After not having Klay Thompson for a single game last season, the Golden State Warriors won’t see him on the court until the 2021-2022 season. Wow, just writing that feels numb as Thompson has officially ripped his Achilles.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the extent of his injury today. Thompson was known to have an MRI after the injury happened yesterday. It’s brutal news for Dub Nation, a fanbase that hopes to return to its winning ways in 2021.

Thompson has been a staple of his dynasty, one that has won half the NBA championships in the past six seasons. He’s been a crucial factor in all five Finals trips, averaging more than 20 points per game in the last five seasons he’s played.

Thompson missed all of last season after tearing the ACL in his opposite leg, which broke his Achilles tendon. Thompson bounced back from that and was thought to be 100 percent heading into the new season, one that would begin in just over a month.

The good news is exactly what Woj’s tweet above says: He is expected to make a full recovery.

With the schedule as it is, Thompson may not be ready for the start of next season either, which is just a debilitating concept for Warriors fans after being able to watch Thompson in full force for so long.

He is truly one of the most polarizing players in the game and one that everyone loved.

It will be hard not to have Thompson on the court, but two-time MVP Stephen Curry will have Andrew Wiggins and No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman to help him get this team back into the postseason.
