While most NBA teams celebrated the addition of new talent through the 2020 NBA Draft on Wednesday night, the Golden State Warriors were left with an injury that could prove as disastrous as it is heartbreaking.
On Wednesday, while participating in basketball training in Southern California with a handful of other NBA players, five-time All-Star Klay Thompson suffered a right leg injury. He was unable to put weight on his right leg when he left the gym.
Unfortunately, the news did not improve from there.
According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Thompson will undergo an MRI on Thursday morning, and the Warriors fear he suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne added that Thompson felt pain in his calf when he sustained the injury, and that members of the Warriors organization are heading south to be with him during the MRI.
Klay Thompson will have a lower leg MRI tomorrow morning. Everyone in the land of the Warriors is very depressed, but they hope for the best. He felt pain in his lower leg, calf area, when he landed on her.

Several members of the Warriors organization are heading to Los Angeles to be there with Klay when he has his MRI.

Thompson hasn’t played in 17 months, since he tore his ACL in the final game of the 2019 NBA Finals. Yes – and he’s still a Yes – he has a significant Achilles tendon injury, we probably won’t see him at all during the 2020-21 season, and we probably won’t see him until well into the 2021-22 season.
All in all, it could end up being two and a half years between on-court appearances for one of the most beloved players in franchise history. And just a terribly unfair turn of events for someone who really loves to play hoop.
For now we wait for the news of the MRI, we hold our breath and cross our fingers so that the injury is not serious.
