Globe Telecom Expands 5G to 17 Key Philippine Cities

Philippine operator Globe Telecom announced that it has expanded its 5G network to 17 key cities in populated areas of Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao, as the operator continues its massive connectivity upgrade campaign.

In a statement, the company said it was accelerating its technology updates to further improve connectivity, the mobile experience, and unlock the potentials of 5G for its customers in: Bacolod, Boracay, Iloilo, Talisay, Lapu-Lapu, Cordova, Minglanilla and Cebu. City in Visayas; and in Davao City and Cagayan De Oro in Mindanao when available.

The company said that its 5G network had reached certain areas of the city of Davao, and that it is currently on track to cover 80% of Metro Manila by the end of the year.

“We have very active 5G development in Metro Manila and we hope to cover 80% of that soon. We are probably in the two-thirds range right now. To complement this, we have also started rolling out in six key cities in Visayas and Mindanao as part of the general change we are making to bring 5G to more places and customers in the country, “said Gil Genio, Globe’s CTO.

The operator promised massive investments in September to upgrade its network on a large scale to meet growing connectivity demands, due to lockdown measures.

In recent news, Globe upgraded its clients to fiber broadband and deployed 700 towers in 10 months.
