MANILA, Philippines – More than a month after the speaker change, the House leadership renewal continued on Wednesday with more allies of former President Alan Peter Cayetano being fired from their posts.
Just as Wednesday’s House session was about to adjourn, Deputy Majority Leader Xavier Jesus Romualdo made a motion to elect the representative of the second district of the city of Cagayán de Oro, Rufus Rodríguez, to the partisan representative of Buhay. , Lito Atienza, and the representative of the city of Las Piñas, Camille Villar, as Speaker Speaker. The motion passed.
The three legislators replaced Capiz District 2 Representative Fredenil Castro, Laguna 1 District Representative Dan Fernández, and Batangas District 2 Representative Raneo Abu, who are known allies of Cayetano.
Caloocan 1st District Representative Dale Malapitan also replaced pro-Kabayan Representative Ron Salo as head of the House contingent before the House Electoral Tribunal (HRET).
Meanwhile, the deputy of the second district of Pampanga, Juan Miguel Macapagal Arroyo, assumed the vacant position of Velasco as president of the energy committee of the Chamber.
Other leadership changes include the election of ACT CIS Partylist Representative Eric Yap as vice chair of the House accounts committee where the presidential son Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte was elected president.
This was not the first time that there was a reorganization in the leadership of the House following the removal of Cayetano from the office of President in October.
The first to be hit was Camarines Sur 2nd Dist. Representative Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr., one of Cayetano’s most vocal allies, who was stripped of his vice-president position just one day after Velasco’s term as the new president of the Camera.
Villafuerte was replaced by Party 1-PACMAN roster representative Mikee Romero, whom Cayetano previously removed as vice president at the level of the speaker line.
Other Velasco allies who were previously chosen for leadership positions were Oriental Mindoro 1st Dis. Rep. Doy Leachon as Senior Vice President and Quezon District 4 Rep. Angelina Helen Tan, who regained her position as chair of the House health committee.
Ilocos Sur 2nd District Representative Kristine Singson-Meehan was also previously elected as Vice Chair of the House Accounts Committee.
