MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte threatened Tuesday night to stand in the way of Vice President Leni Robredo if she decides to run for president in 2022.
In a televised speech intended to discuss the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent onslaught of typhoons, Duterte lashed out at Robredo for allegedly criticizing him for his absence during the Typhoon Ulysses attack.
Duterte accused the vice president of lying to the Filipino people for making it look like they were missing in action while the Filipinos endured the brunt of the strong winds and rains caused by the typhoon.
“Next time, make no mistake or I will be forced to insult you because you are playing too much. Nagpapa-beauty ka. This is not the time for you, ”Duterte said.
“During the campaign, I will go. Okay, try it. I’ve wanted to tell you a lot of things for a long time. I reserve. When you start your campaign when you run for president, I will kill you hard. This is your nightmare, ”he added.
While Ulises was touring Luzon, #NasaanAngPangulo (Where is the president?), It was a trend on social networks when netizens questioned the absence of Duterte, who was attending the 37th ASEAN Summit through teleconferences.
Ulises left 73 dead and billions of pesos in damage to infrastructure and agriculture have also been recorded.
