MANILA, Philippines – Pasig River ferry service operations are suspended indefinitely as of Monday due to the effects of Typhoon Ulysses.
In an advisory, the Manila Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) said pontoons at several ferry stations were damaged when the typhoon hit the metropolis last week.
A pontoon serves as a docking platform for ferries.
Pontoons at Guadalupe, Hulo, Valenzuela, Pinagbuhatan and San Joaquín stations were destroyed, MMDA said.
The MMDA said the suspension of operations is “to assure the traveling public of their safety when traveling on the ferry.”
Ulysses, the 21st cyclonic storm to hit the country this year, caused massive flooding in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.
Typhoon Ulises has so far claimed the lives of 67 people.
