President Duterte said on Saturday that he would pardon the chief of the Philippine National Police, Major General Debold Sinas, if he is found responsible for the meeting held on his birthday, for which he faces a complaint for violating quarantine protocols. Duterte, in a video message, said that Sinas did not commit anything that had “moral implications or malice.” Duterte said that the “morning” for Sinas’ birthday, held in May, was not the fault of the police general. “If they find him responsible, I would forgive him.” —Leila B.
