Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 14) – Governor Manuel Mamba confirmed on Saturday that nine people died amid massive floods in Cagayan province.

“We already have nine confirmed deaths due to the floods na nangyayari sa (which is happening in) Cagayan,” Mamba said in a briefing.

Mamba noted that two have drowned, four were killed in a landslide and three were electrocuted.

Mamba also said the floods, which reached more than 13 meters high in some areas, are beginning to subside, albeit slowly.

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office said in a Facebook post early Saturday that the count of heavy flooding triggered by the typhoon Ulysses rains increased to eight from seven on Friday night.

The local government said 84,257 people from 262 villages in the province have been affected by floods caused by heavy rains.

Nearly 200 people were rescued in Cagayan as of Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard said, as authorities and private organizations continue to provide assistance following rescue requests on social media.
