BARANGAY Geneva will seek a semi-final spot on Friday when it faces Rain or Shine in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Angeles University Foundation Sports and Cultural Center.
The top-seeded Kings meet the Elastopainters at 6:45 p.m.
After an 8-3 win-loss record in the elimination round, the Gin Kings moved on the verge of advancing to the semi-final round with their two-time lead to beat.
Geneva comes into the series rested after ending the eliminations with a 102-80 win over Terrafirma last Monday, but head coach Tim Cone said landing first is not a guarantee of a successful campaign.
Even during the knockout round, Cone said the team’s focus is not on first place, but on making sure the Kings enter the quarterfinals two times more ahead.
“When you’re the No. 1 seed, everyone assumes you’ll make it to the finals and that’s not always the case. So you have to make sure the guys understand that it’s a luxury to be number one, but it’s still not a guarantee and you have to make sure you get through it, “Cone said.
Meanwhile, something in favor of Rain or Shine is that they had already beaten Barangay Geneva in the eliminations, scoring an 85-82 overtime victory on October 27th.

Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia admitted that they will be facing a different Geneva squad than the one the Elastopainters defeated the Kings two weeks ago.
“I just told the players, we just have to wait for the Geneva game and we will forget about it,” Garcia said.
Garcia was referring to his final knockout round match against Phoenix in which he blew a 14-point lead before being defeated by Phoenix Super LPG, 90-88, to drop to eighth place.
