MANILA, Philippines – The total number of coronavirus cases in the Philippines rose to 404,713 after 1,902 additional infections were recorded, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday.
The latest DOH data also recorded 506 new recoveries and 31 additional deaths, bringing the total to 362,902 and 7,752, respectively.
Of the total cases, 34,058 are active cases, of which 83.9 percent are mild, 9.4 percent are asymptomatic, 4.3 percent are critical, 2.3 percent are severe and 0.12 percent are moderate.
There were nine duplicates, of which seven were recovered cases, which were removed from the total case count.
Additionally, there were also 13 cases previously labeled as recovered that were reclassified as deaths.
Inclusion of ‘moderate’ classification
The inclusion of the moderate rating, according to DOH, was in line with the World Health Organization reclassification of severity of symptoms among COVID-19 cases.
A “moderate case” means that a child, adolescent or adult patient shows clinical signs of non-severe pneumonia (cough, dyspnea, or respiratory rate of 21 to 30 breaths per minute for adults and cough or shortness of breath and rapid breathing or contraction of the infant chest), explained the DOH.
