Duterte: Government on top of Ulises’ situation, he no longer sleeps

This was President Rodrigo Duterte’s response to critics who questioned the government’s alleged inaction when Typhoon Ulises struck parts of Luzon and caused flooding in some areas.

“There are those who say they are idle, sleeping, we don’t sleep here,” Duterte said in a speech Thursday.

#NasaanAngPangulo (where the president is) became a trending topic on Twitter as several residents called for ransom online following the Ulysses impact.

Duterte attended the virtual summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Thursday morning.

“My compatriots, mga kababayan, as we face the heavy downpour and strong winds from Ulysses, I assure everyone that the government is aware of the situation. From the beginning, various government agencies have already mobilized to respond to the situation on the ground, ”said the president.

Duterte said he has already mobilized to use the assets of the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Air Force to respond to stranded residents.

“I assure you that the government will do everything possible to provide assistance in the form of shelters, relief items, financial aid and post-disaster counseling. Rest assured, the government will leave no one behind. We will come out of this crisis, I assure you ”, he added.

Five provinces in Luzon remain under the tropical cyclone No. 3 wind signal as Ulises was last seen west of Iba, Zambales.

Ulysses is expected to leave the Philippines Area of ​​Responsibility on Friday morning, the state meteorological office said.
