MANILA, Philippines – Marikina City Hall is now flooded as Typhoon Ulysses continues to hit areas in Luzon on Thursday, said the city’s mayor, Marcelino Teodoro.

“Even the Marikina City Hall is flooded. In fact, we cannot use all the city council offices. We transferred other city hall operations to other areas, ”Teodoro told ABS-CBN News Channel’s Dateline Philippines.

Teodoro said that floodwaters are chest-deep in most of the barangays (villages) in the city.

Rescue operations in progress

“We are taking advantage of this opportunity that has stopped raining to vigorously undertake rescue operations. […] On the roof of their (neighbors’) houses, ”Teodoro said when asked about rescue operations in the city.

“There are still many, many more residents who are still trapped,” Teodoro said.

He said the floodwaters are also dangerous to cross because of the “live lines.”

Marikina residents in the early hours of Thursday asked for help as the flooding has already reached the third floor of their houses.
