CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Cebu City Emergency Operations Center is warning the public that if the rising trend in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases continues, the city may be placed in another lockdown.

On November 11, 2020, the city registered 28 new cases of COVID-19 bringing active cases to 131.

Councilman Joel Garganera, EOC’s deputy director of implementation, said this increase had been alarming as there were more cases than recoveries.

“These data serve as a warning, (to) our government, PNP, barangays. Front-line people can only do so much. We need the cooperation of the entire population. If other first world countries with far superior health services experienced a second wave (of COVID-91 cases), lockdowns, how much more would we. What good will our profits be if a few continue to violate our health protocols, ”Garganera said.

The EOC urges facilities to be more compliant with health protocols and residents to be more vigilant when leaving.

As of now, 80 percent of the broadcast is obtained outside of homes, with only 20 percent of the broadcasts in residences.

If the trend continues, Garganera warns that the city may be under lockdown at the end of the month./dbs
