UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he has a “good relationship” with President Trump, but that it was “extremely exciting” to discuss an upcoming climate change summit with President-elect Joe Biden, as he answered questions from UK lawmakers in Parliament on Wednesday.
Johnson highlighted the issue as a highlight of his first conversation with Biden as president-elect, which took place through a call Tuesday.
When asked about Trump’s refusal to grant the US elections, Johnson replied: “I have and had a good relationship with the previous president, I do not resist that as it is the duty of all British Prime Ministers to have a good relationship with the White House.
“But I am delighted to find the many areas in which the incoming Biden-Harris administration can make common cause with us. In particular, it was very exciting talking to President Biden about what he wants to do with the COP26 summit next year, “he added.
The prime minister also said the two “firmly agreed” to “stand together” to defend human rights, global free trade and NATO, “and to work together to fight climate change.”
He continued: “It was refreshing, I can tell, to have that conversation and I look forward to many more.”
