1 dead, 3 missing in Bicol while Ulises travels the region

CITY OF LEGAZPI – The Civil Defense Office (OCD) in Bicol has reported one death and three people missing after Typhoon Ulysses dumped heavy rains in the region.

The OCD report said that Avelino Cabanela, 68, was found dead on the roof of his home in the town of Bagasbas in the capital city of Daet, Camarines Norte, where severe flooding was reported.

Daet Police Chief Lt. Col. Chito Oyardo said the report on Cábanela was sent to the police around 2pm on Wednesday (November 11) and he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government said it was still verifying the cause of death.

Several Daet residents had to be rescued from their flooded homes on Wednesday night.

Daet Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) posted on its Facebook page around 9:30 pm photos of the rescue operation in the village of Mancruz in Daet.

At least three families, two babies and four children between them, were saved.

In the town of Vinzons, neighbors Bobby Roderick Masaya, 19; Jessy Boy Alvarez, 33; and Roland Álvarez, 48, were reported missing in the town of Pinagtigasan, according to the OCD report.

The residents were last seen on November 8.
