Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 11) – The new chief of the Philippine National Police, Major General Debold Sinas, denied having been involved in the alleged unsolved killings in central Visayas during his tenure as the region’s chief police officer.

“Actually say ko alam (I have no idea). When I was in Cebu, we have operations, we have the implementation of search warrants on illegal drugs and illegal possession of firearms, ”he told CNN Philippines in an exclusive interview. “During operations, dine-declare namin ‘yon kapag may casualties (we declare casualties).”

The Human Rights Commission in Region 7 reportedly said that murders in the war on drugs increased under Sinas police leadership.

Sinas, who was the Central Visayas police chief from July 2018 to October 2019, said he is ready to face the charges if the allegations are proven.

“I don’t know what their positions are, we’ll take care of that,” he said. “They could always complain to any agency, if they knew there was. But I don’t have any abuse in Region 7.”

In March 2019, at least 14 were killed in a joint police-military operation in Negros Oriental in a single day. The province also had shooting incidents in July last year.

The Senate has already investigated the series of murders in the two Negros provinces in August 2019.

“We have been investigated in the Senate … and we answered the questions,” Sinas said. “I think that after a hearing, we were able to convince them that the Regional Police 7, we are doing our job to investigate, whatever the accusations.”

The country’s new chief police officer is currently facing administrative charges for violating quarantine protocols when he allowed a mass gathering in May during his time as Metro Manila’s police chief.
